Wedding Gift Set for a Bride

These are a couple of items I made for a friend to celebrate her getting married!  I crocheted a little white clutch purse out of yarn that had sparkle in it - it almost looked like thin tinsel wrapped around the yarn.  Very cool, and it's soft too.  I also used some pink satin ribbon.  I made the same purse pattern for a holiday gift a bit ago, but the color scheme was totally different.  To see that version - check out this post

I also made a simple little bracelet with some faux pearls I purchased.  I am starting to think I should make more jewelry. I'm finding that I enjoy it.

Just thought I may as well share these projects really quickly. I know they aren't my usual papercrafting projects - but I do like to dabble in other things now and again.  :)

Crocheted Clutch Purse

This is what I made for my best friend this year.  I crocheted the purse using a pattern from a book.  The ribbon is from Stampin' Up.  I created a little charm that is hanging from the purse, but she could also remove it and use it for something else.

I sewed a liner for the inside and I wanted it to be a really fun pop of color... so I really used some fun fabric!

Crocheted Cake Slice

My daughter is turning two in May.  I decided I want to get her a little play kitchen.  So... I'm starting to make her some cute and fun little play food to go with it.  This is my first piece for her, yummy cake slice.  Looks good enough to eat, doesn't it?!  I got the pattern from a book called Tasty Crochet.

I will be doing a lot of fun party planning soon.  I ordered the plates and such for her cupcake themed party, so as soon as I can see the colors in person I'll start making banners and other fun decorations I can't wait to share with you :)

Placemat Set

I crocheted this placemat set using Red Heart's Ocean. I'm pretty pleased with the results! Super basic crochet and great practice! I would love to add a decorative border a little later, and for that reason I made them a tad smaller than I'd like the finished size to be! I'll find yarn and a pattern for that last finishing touch later, but for now I am tickled with the way these turned out!

Everything is just super basic single crochet stitches. I let the pattern in the yarn do the decorative work for me!

Father's Day

So, for my husband for Father's Day I wanted to do a couple handmade things for him. I crocheted him a skull and crossbones pen holder. It was a free pattern from Lion Brand yarn that was designed to be a can cozy. Well, he doesn't have any use for a can cozy. In this picture you can see the plastic container I used. Then I cut the excess off to hide the plastic. It isn't my finest work. It came out pretty wonky! *LOL* I was in a bit of a rush when I made it though, so I didn't take the time to undo and redo things as I probably should have.

Overall though I still like it, and I think he does too. At least he has some unique things that I've made him instead of the typical gifts that all start to look the same! There are lots of cute Father's Day gifts out there, but they all start to look the same to me after awhile. I mean, yes it is adorable to have a mug that says "World's Greatest Dad" but I would rather make one myself that includes our kiddos handprint or something. I often spend a great deal of extra money ordering from websites that do personalization for the very reason of making something a little more unique and special!

Yesterday was a fun day for me because I got crafty mail! *LOL* I had ordered a new cartridge for my Cricut, along with some accessories and cutting mats. I knew I wanted to make him a card, but I really didn't have a vision in mind. All I had were these two twine things with leaves on the ends for inspiration. They were part of wrapping on a gift we recently received and my husband liked them so well he insisted I should save them and do something with them. So... naturally I figured I may as well use them for his card since he liked them.

I based the colors for the card on them, and then I really didn't figure out where to put them until after the card was pretty much done. That was a bit of a mistake! I don't think it turned out horribly, but I probably would have laid things out differently if I had given it more thought. Originally I envisioned the leaves still on the twine and maybe wrapped around the picture like a frame or something, but they were too long and I couldn't seem to make them look right, so I ended up cutting the leaves off and using them alone instead.

The photo is of him meeting our daughter for the very first time a little over a year ago. I think it's such a precious photo, and since we are about to meet another little one here in about a month I figured the sentiment was extra special for this Father's Day!

I really enjoyed playing with different fonts to create the words! I like what I ended up with a lot! It didn't take too long and it wasn't too hard, but I think it's such a fun touch! Way cuter than just doing all one plain font! I really love my Cricut! I am slowly collecting cartridges for it, but I have also purchased the third party software called Sure Cuts a Lot that allows me to cut other images. That's how I did all the letters for this card. I also recently got some drawing software that I hope helps open up even more possibilities for me. I truly adore papercrafting so having such an amazing tool at my fingertips is pretty exciting!

So... that's my crafty little Father's Day for this year. Next year my daughter will be 2 and I'll probably get her involved in the fun!

Crocheting can be very diverse!

So, a did a couple of crochet projects recently and they are TOTALLY different! Not much in common at all!

The first thing I made was a little cupcake to put in my daughter's room. It is 3d and stuffed and just too adorable for words! I adore cupcakes! Soon I'd like to hand paint some wall plaques with cupcakes for her room as well! It's in a pink and brown theme, not totally done yet, but put together and looking basically good, it's just needs special finishing touches from Mommy! I'll be sure to share pics as I do more to it!

The second thing I made was practically totally opposite. It is a flat piece, with a plain shape and a design created with contrasting yarn colors. It is also a lot more morbid! It's a skull I made for my husband. The backside looked terrible, so I crocheted another piece all in black and sewed them together. It gives it some thickness and makes it more stiff, which is actually kind of good in this case. I used a small piece of yarn to create a way to hang it and he is planning on taking it to work with him. I had a really hard time finding something I wanted to crochet him! He doesn't wear scarves or hats, and it seems like crocheted things are often somewhat feminine in nature. Luckily I found this in my book The Happy Hooker.
So, obviously there's a lot of very different projects I can crochet, and that really excites me! I am very new to it. So far I have really enjoyed learning. I have found it to be very theraputic, and my projects have been pretty cheap too, which is always a plus!
